Eight people have tragically lost their lives, and 28 others have been injured following a building collapse in Lucknow’s Transport Nagar area on Saturday evening. The Relief Commissioner’s Office released the latest report on Sunday, confirming the casualties. The injured have been admitted to three local hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
The collapsed building, a three-storey medical warehouse, has been the focus of an intense rescue operation. “We are hopeful that all survivors have been rescued. The operation is expected to conclude within the next 5-6 hours, and efforts are being made to secure nearby structures,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police RN Singh.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responded swiftly to the incident, directing officials to expedite relief efforts and ensure that the injured receive proper treatment. He also expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of those affected.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences via social media, offering support to the families of the victims. He announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 200,000 for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured, to be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
Officials continue to monitor the situation as rescue teams work to ensure the safety of the area and assist in recovery efforts.
