Continuous heavy rainfall and upstream inflows have caused severe flooding in Rongjiang and Congjiang counties in Guizhou Province, southwest China, forcing the evacuation of nearly 81,000 residents and prompting a Level I flood emergency—the highest alert—according to provincial authorities.

In Rongjiang, where the renowned Cun Chao rural football stadium was submerged under three meters of water after the Duliu River rose 6.68 m above warning levels, a dramatic 30-minute downpour at 8 pm Monday set off the crisis. Rescue teams, including firefighters and volunteers, have been deploying boats and other equipment to assist residents and monitor potential landslides.

Further complicating the situation, landslides from heavy rain triggered the collapse of a bridge on a major expressway in Sandu County, although no casualties have been reported. Authorities are continuing rescue operations and infrastructure assessments as torrential rains persist across the province.
