The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) is moving forward with several major projects, including the Al Hamriyah Independent Water Desalination Plant, which will have a production capacity of 90 million gallons of water per day.

Engineer Faisal Al Serkal, who leads the Water Department at SEWA, stated that the authority is developing several key projects. These include three pumping stations and nine water storage reservoirs that will hold a total of 180 million gallons. These facilities will be located in the areas of Al Zubair, Al Badi’, and Al Burair. Additionally, SEWA is constructing main water pipelines that stretch approximately 245 kilometres.

Together, these projects represent an investment of about AED 4 billion and are expected to significantly enhance Sharjah’s water supply network, ensuring the efficient delivery of treated water across Sharjah and the Central Region.

Work is already underway on one of the key projects — a major water pipeline linking Al Houma to Al Falaj station. The pipeline, measuring 1,600 mm in diameter and 8 km in length, comes at a cost of AED 105.5 million and is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

This forms part of a wider transmission network that will eventually cover 77 km from Al Hamriyah plant to Al Falaj station, with an overall cost of AED 645 million. Contractors have already been appointed to carry out construction of the reservoirs and pumping stations. The estimated costs for these projects are AED 505 million in Al Zubair, AED 460 million in Al Badi’, and AED 446.85 million in Al Burair. The full set of projects is planned for completion by the third quarter of 2027.
