UAE-based Global South Utilities (GSU) has partnered with Egypt’s AH Industrial Management, China’s JA Solar, and Bahrain’s Infinity Capital to establish an integrated solar industrial complex, with an investment valued at $220 million (around AED 810 million).

A subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s Resources Investment, GSU stated that the project will create one of the largest renewable energy manufacturing hubs in the region, highlighting the UAE’s leadership in advancing the green transition across the Middle East and Africa.

The “Atum Solar Egypt” project, located in Ain Sokhna (TEDA), will span 200,000 square metres and feature a 2 GW solar cells factory focused on exports, alongside a 2 GW solar modules factory serving Egypt and Africa to support reliable and sustainable power generation.

The project, expected to take up to three years from construction to full operation, will generate more than 800 direct jobs and progressively increase the use of local Egyptian inputs such as aluminium and glass.

Eng.Ali Alshimmari, CEO and Managing Director of Global South Utilities, said, “This partnership reflects the UAE’s commitment to clean energy investments that drive economic development while empowering communities. Our project in Egypt is not only an industrial venture; it is an Arab-Asian collaboration that strengthens the Global South, localizes green technology and develops future-ready talent.”

The signing ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Industry Lieutenant General Kamel Al Wazir, and Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority.

The agreement was formalized by Ali Alshimmari of GSU, Cao Hui, Executive Director of Egypt-TEDA SEZone Development Company, and Ahmed Abou Hashima, Chairman of AH Industrial Management and Co-founder of Atum Solar Egypt.

This landmark initiative reinforces the UAE’s role as a regional pioneer in renewable energy, reflecting its vision to advance industrial and economic integration across the Arab world and Asia while supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030.
