The pioneering Arabic reading scale, Miqyas Al Dhad, has also signed a strategic partnership with Diglossia, the specialists and experts in assessing Arabic language, thus making Miqyas Al Dhad officially recognized as the Arabic reading scale of Diglossia.
In addition to this partnership, another factor that reinforces this partnership is the Lexile Framework of Reading by MetaMetrics, which is the basis of Miqyas Al Dhad.
As a collaboration with MetaMetrics will undertake a linking study to align the assessment suite of Diglossia with the Miqyas Al Dhad scale, to verify the validity and the accuracy of the measures.
Miqyas Al Dhad, being the promoter of this collaboration, reiterates its commitment to assist Arab Ministries of Education in addressing the issues of literacy by providing a combined and scientific method to assess the mastery of Arabic or the complexity of texts among the students.
By allowing educators, parents, and policymakers to adjust the reading level of a student to the necessary level of difficulty of the text, Miqyas Al Dhad’s framework develops a powerful ecosystem that guarantees learners are shown the content that is relevant to their respective strengths.
The platform will be able to optimally adapt reading materials to the needs of the students to reduce gaps in reading and bring about quality improvement.
General Manager of Arabic Scale Educational Consultancy LLC, Eyad Darawsheh, said, “This partnership reflects our shared vision to provide the Arab world with a powerful, research-based reading scale that respects the unique linguistic characteristics of the Arabic language. By joining forces with Diglossia, we are extending the reach of Miqyas Al Dhad to more students and creating a cooperative reading ecosystem that benefits educators, families, and publishers alike.”
Under the agreement, Diglossia will incorporate the Miqyas Al Dhad reading scale in its digital literacy and assessment systems, which will give educational institutions in the region access to data-driven recommendations founded on a validated Arabic reading scale.
This adoption signifies a major step towards the matching of assessment tools with culturally and linguistically pertinent measures.
Founder and CEO of Diglossia, Mimi Jett, added that “Diglossia is proud to support the international rollout of Miqyas Al Dhad, which opens the door for a single scale standardizing reading levels in Arabic reading assessment. By aligning our tools with this scale, beginning with TALA® and expanding throughout the portfolio, we can confidently offer educators across the Arab world an integral framework to connect readers with appropriate content, provide personalised guidance, and assess growth.”
MetaMetrics, the world leader in the Lexile Framework of Reading, will also conduct a linking study, which will involve ensuring Miqyas Al Dhad is well established in the internationally recognized conventions, yet it will not deviate from the morphological and syntactic constructions of the Arabic language.
MetaMetrics, the world authority of the Lexile Framework of Reading, will also conduct a linking study to make sure that Miqyas Al Dhad is well established in the globally recognized standards and is also compatible with the morphological and syntactic forms of Arabic.
Miqyas Al Dhad is also collaborating with publishers in the Arab world in the context of its overall vision to create a full library of leveled Arabic texts, whereby readers can find, read, and interact with books pertaining to the Miqyas Al Dhad scale.
This partnership has the potential to establish the foundation of a future where Arabic students have empowerment in the form of correct, easy-to-access, and culturally relevant reading materials, thus expanding the promise of universal literacy.
