The UAE has announced that January 1, 2026, will be an official paid holiday for all private-sector employees, marking the first public holiday of the year. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) confirmed the decision, following a circular implementing the Cabinet’s approved holiday schedule for both public and private sectors.

Public Sector Holiday and Remote Work Day

For federal government employees, January 1, 2026, will also be a public holiday, falling on a Thursday. Additionally, January 2 has been designated as a remote work day for federal staff, allowing flexibility for roles that do not require physical presence in the workplace.

Employees whose roles do not necessitate being on-site will have the option to work remotely on January 2, ensuring continuity while allowing staff to ease into the new year after the holiday.
