Venus Williams is set to make a remarkable return to the Australian Open in January 2026 after being awarded a wildcard entry, marking her first appearance at the tournament in five years. The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion will compete in Melbourne from January 18, just days after her recent marriage to Danish-born model and actor Andrea Preti.
At 45, Williams will rewrite history by becoming the oldest woman ever to feature in the Australian Open main draw, surpassing the previous age record held by Japan’s Kimiko Date. The comeback comes nearly three decades after Williams first played at Melbourne Park in 1998, underlining the longevity of one of tennis’ most iconic careers.
“I’m excited to be back in Australia and looking forward to competing during the Australian summer,” Williams said, reflecting on the tournament that has long held a special place in her journey. She has reached the Australian Open final twice, finishing runner-up in 2003 and 2017, and owns an impressive 54–21 win-loss record at the event.
Williams last competed in Melbourne in 2021 before stepping away from regular tour action. Her return will be carefully built through warm-up tournaments in Auckland and Hobart, where she has also received wildcard entries.
As the 2026 season begins, all eyes will once again be on Venus Williams as she defies age and expectations, adding another extraordinary chapter to her legendary career on one of tennis’ biggest stages.
