Pemmy Majodina, Minister of Water and Sanitation of the Republic of South Africa, stated that the partnership between the UAE and the Republic of Senegal, within the framework of the high-level preparatory meeting for the UN Water Conference 2026, which began yesterday in Senegal, demonstrates a growing global commitment to prioritising water issues on the international agenda.

Majodina, in remarks to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), commended the UAE’s active engagement in the meeting’s activities, noting that it will help accelerate investments in the water sector, advance water infrastructure, and support sustainable solutions that promote water security as well as economic and social development.

She emphasised the need to strengthen collaborations between the public and private sectors and to fast-track the translation of international commitments into practical projects with measurable impact.

Majodina highlighted that the launch of the roadmap for the UN Water Conference 2026, jointly prepared by the UAE and Senegal, represents a strategic move to reinforce global collective action against water scarcity challenges and a key milestone in enhancing international commitments to support sustainable development worldwide.
