Checkout.com has signed a new strategic alliance with Spotify, allowing the global digital payments provider to offer acquiring services for the world’s largest audio streaming subscription platform.

Based on the agreement, Checkout.com will serve as a partner to the global payments infrastructure of Spotify and will assist in achieving a smooth, secure, and reliable checkout experience for its global user base of more than 700 million monthly active users and over 280 million paying subscribers worldwide.

The collaboration will involve Checkout.com delivering acquiring services in more than 180 countries, using its local presence and global payments experience to ensure transaction performance in all geographies where Spotify operates.

Sandra Alzetta, Vice President, Global Head of Payments and Customer Service at Spotify, said, “Our aim is to deliver a seamless, simple, and safe payment experience so that our users can focus on enjoying the music, podcasts, and audiobooks they find on Spotify. It’s important for us to work with partners who can move quickly and collaborate closely. Partnering with Checkout.com enables us to leverage their global reach, local expertise, and the ability to optimise payment performance at scale.”

Spotify will also roll out Intelligent Acceptance, the proprietary AI-based optimization solution of Checkout.com, as part of the integration. The technology leverages real-time information on the Checkout.com global network to smartly route transactions, minimize payment failures, and enhance acceptance rates.

Network Tokens and enhanced authentication services will further enhance the solution and allow the company to secure the system further and keep the recurring payments to the subscriber base without any interruption of the service.

Guillaume Pousaz, CEO and founder of Checkout.com, added, “This partnership with Spotify is a significant milestone in our mission to power the world’s leading digital enterprises with reliable, high-performance digital payments. Spotify sets the standard for digital experiences for creators and fans across the world, and payments play a critical role in delivering that. By combining our global acquiring network with Intelligent Acceptance – which performs 87 million real-time optimisations daily – we’re helping maximise acceptance rates, reduce costs, and deliver the best possible payment experience for Spotify’s global audience, today and in the future.”

The partnership highlights the increasing significance of payment optimization supported by AI as subscription platforms expand globally with different markets and consumer behavior, regulations, and payment preferences.
