The firms announced on Monday that Abu Dhabi-based technology developer G42 and a group of Vietnamese consortium signed a framework cooperation agreement to create sovereign artificial intelligence infrastructure and cloud computing infrastructure in Vietnam.

According to a statement from the firms, G42 and the consortium comprising Vietnam-based FPT Corporation and Viet Thai Group will invest up to $1 billion to install AI and cloud capacity across various data centres to serve the needs of the public and private sectors in computing.

The partners will develop and run large-scale data centres that are meant to deliver high-performance AI and cloud services, a move that Hanoi hopes will ensure that the country becomes a major technology hub in Southeast Asia, as well as protect the national data sovereignty.

However, the consortium and G42 will roll out substantial cloud capacity in three data centres in Vietnam under the agreement.

Ali Al Amine, chief commercial officer of G42 International, said in the statement, “This framework agreement represents a new model for national AI transformation, one built on sovereignty, partnership and purpose.”

The release reported that the FPT Corporation will offer technical expertise and local market knowledge, and Viet Thai Group will offer strategic capabilities across sectors, including retail and logistics.

Therefore, the Abu Dhabi technology giant will provide sophisticated AI infrastructure facilities. Consortium leaders added that the partnership will help Vietnam realise its vision of implementing national AI programs, digitizing services, and increasing innovation in government, industry, and research institutions.

Officials stated that the next phase includes finalizing public‑private workload distribution, obtaining regulatory approvals, and beginning data centre construction.

As a broader economic strategy, Vietnam has been making hyperscale development of digital and AI infrastructure to enhance data security, digital resilience, and its role as a technology hub in the region.
