Large parts of central Dresden will be evacuated on Wednesday following the discovery of a large unexploded British World War II flying bomb, the BBC reported.
The 250kg (551lb) device was found near the former Carola Bridge, which collapsed into the Elbe River in 2024.
Dresden’s fire brigade said this will be the city’s largest evacuation for such an incident, impacting around 18,000 residents, tourists and commuters.
A significant section of the old town will be sealed off, including several of the city’s most well-known landmarks the iconic Frauenkirche Lutheran Church, the Residenzschloss Palace, and the Semper Opera House.
