Abu Dhabi and Dubai are preparing for a spell of unstable weather this weekend, with the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasting rain, falling temperatures, and periods of dusty conditions across the UAE.

Rainfall Expected Across Several Emirates

According to the NCM, scattered showers are expected from Friday, lasting for about a week.
Rain is forecast in Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah on Saturday, with additional rainfall predicted in Abu Dhabi on Sunday as the weather system moves inland. The centre also warned that winds may strengthen at times, causing dust and reduced visibility in exposed areas.

Temperatures To Dip

The change in weather comes as the country transitions deeper into winter. Temperatures in Dubai, set to reach 31°C midweek, are expected to fall sharply to 24°C by Sunday. Abu Dhabi will see a similar trend, with highs of 30°C dropping to 24°C by the end of the week. NCM climate data shows the UAE typically records around 8.7mm of rain in December, with the average daily temperature sitting at 20.3°C.

Current Conditions: Clouds, Chance Of Fog

Today, residents can expect fair to partly cloudy skies, with low clouds forming over the islands and parts of the western region. Humidity is set to rise overnight, especially along the western coast, increasing the likelihood of mist or light fog early Thursday. Winds will remain light to moderate, between 10 and 20 km/h, reaching up to 30 km/h, while sea conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will stay slight.

Tomorrow’s weather is expected to turn partly cloudy to cloudy, with a chance of light rain over western and coastal regions if cloud cover builds. Morning fog may also return inland and along coastal areas as humidity remains high.

Unstable Weather from December 12–19

From Friday, December 12, until December 19, the UAE will come under the influence of a surface low-pressure system combined with a deepening upper-air trough. This will bring varying cloud formations, fresh winds, and intermittent periods of scattered rain across multiple regions. Winds will fluctuate between south-easterly, north-easterly and north-westerly directions, occasionally strengthening with cloud activity and raising dust in some areas. Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf are expected to range from slight to moderate, becoming rough at times during cloud build-up, while the Sea of Oman will remain slight to moderate.
