The 12th edition of the Al Maleh and Fishing Festival will open tomorrow evening at Al Hisn Island, Dibba Al Hisn, running until August 31. Organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in cooperation with the Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, the four-day event celebrates the UAE’s rich maritime heritage while promoting economic growth in the fisheries sector.

Preserving Heritage, Promoting Trade

The festival shines a spotlight on Al Maleh salted and preserved fish, which has long been a staple of Emirati cuisine and a key part of the UAE’s fishing traditions. By gathering government entities, private sector companies, retailers, and local families, the event bridges tradition with modern commerce.

Visitors can explore the central Al Maleh Market, featuring premium salted fish products, as well as exhibitions showcasing agricultural goods, advanced fishing gear, engines, and boats. A dining area will serve authentic Emirati dishes, providing guests with the opportunity to experience traditional flavors while enjoying cultural demonstrations.

Community Engagement and Economic Impact

Aligned with the UAE’s “Year of Community 2025”, the festival highlights the importance of public-private partnerships and community engagement. By supporting productive families, artisans, and small businesses, the event strengthens Sharjah’s economic fabric while preserving heritage-based industries.

The Sharjah Chamber views the festival as an economic catalyst supporting SMEs, fostering partnerships between traditional craftsmen and modern enterprises, and boosting tourism in the Eastern Region.

Passing Maritime Traditions to Future Generations

Beyond its commercial significance, the festival plays a vital role in cultural preservation. Traditional practices such as fishing, salting, canning, and Al Maleh production are demonstrated to younger generations, ensuring the transfer of skills and knowledge from the UAE’s forefathers.

This integration of heritage with innovation underscores Sharjah’s leadership in promoting industries that contribute to food security, job creation, and sustainable economic development.

Looking Ahead

Now in its 12th year, the Al Maleh and Fishing Festival has evolved into a unique platform that celebrates identity-driven growth and development. By linking maritime heritage with future opportunities, the event exemplifies Sharjah’s vision of sustainable development rooted in tradition.
