Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to promoting meaningful and effective global dialogue on artificial intelligence, aligning with the leadership’s vision to leverage advanced technologies for societal benefit and sustainable development.
During a session titled “The Global Vision for Artificial Intelligence” at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Al Olama highlighted that the UAE’s co-chairing of the upcoming summit alongside Swaziland, as well as hosting the subsequent edition, provides a strategic opportunity to strengthen international collaboration, ensure continuity in global AI discussions, and align priorities amid the rapid evolution of emerging technologies.
He stressed the importance of focusing on practical outcomes and measurable impact when shaping the future of advanced technologies.
The session explored strategies to enhance the positive global impact of AI, expand its benefits, and develop more inclusive and adaptive governance frameworks.
Other participants included Paul Bogantes Zamora, Minister of Science, Technology and Telecommunications of the Republic of Costa Rica, and Sriram Krishnan, Senior Policy Advisor at the White House. The discussion emphasized building flexible global governance models capable of keeping pace with technological advancements while ensuring all countries have a voice in shaping AI’s future.
Al Olama underlined the need for institutional models that can continuously learn and adapt to AI’s rapid development.
He noted that computing power has become a strategic global resource, and expanding access to digital infrastructure and AI governance participation is essential for maximizing economic returns from future technologies. Al Olama highlighted the UAE’s early investments in large-scale data centres, cloud partnerships, and sovereign AI platforms, positioning the country as both a regional and global hub for computing capabilities.
He added that the UAE’s vision emphasizes integrating AI into a comprehensive infrastructure that serves multiple sectors. He highlighted that the challenge is not only AI misuse but also underutilization, stressing that success is measured by how effectively AI is embedded in daily life, government services, education, and healthcare. This includes accelerating the adoption of smart solutions, strengthening national talent readiness, and building international partnerships to facilitate knowledge exchange.
Al Olama further stated that, guided by its leadership’s vision, the UAE prioritizes ensuring that AI investments translate into transformative improvements in government efficiency and service quality.
He reaffirmed the need for agile and continuously learning institutional models that evolve with AI while adopting governance frameworks that encourage innovation and ensure responsible, inclusive global use of advanced technologies.
The session also addressed the role of Global South countries in shaping AI standards and infrastructure, the importance of regional cooperation for access to computing capabilities and talent development, and challenges related to AI adoption alongside its economic and social opportunities.
Participants explored ways to foster institutional innovation that strengthens global AI governance resilience and ensures all countries are included, contributing to sustainable and positive international outcomes.
The UAE’s participation in the summit, held in New Delhi from 16th to 20th February, underscores its ongoing commitment to international AI cooperation, reinforces its role as a key partner in shaping the future of technology, and builds strategic partnerships to advance sustainable development and accelerate innovation across vital sectors.
