In a significant sustainability move, Australian agri-tech pioneer núaFEEDs is set to launch operations in the UAE, transforming surplus bread waste into high-quality livestock feed and marking a milestone in the country’s circular economy and food security agenda.

With its UAE registration complete, the company is now preparing to build a facility that will repurpose grain-based food waste, especially surplus bread from retail chains, bakeries, and food manufacturers, into a stable, nutrient-rich feed alternative for livestock farmers.

Led by founders Chava and Eric Berrill, núaFEEDs brings over 25 years of experience from its family-run facility in Western Australia. Its arrival addresses three key regional challenges: the rising cost of animal feed, food waste disposal, and the UAE’s dependency on imports for feedstock.

“For every tonne of bread diverted from landfill, more than 500 kg of CO2 emissions and 13,000 litres of embedded water are saved,” the company said, highlighting its alignment with the UAE’s climate action goals and food sustainability mandates.

The initiative is expected to be of significant value to UAE government bodies such as the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), the Food Security Office, and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), as it supports the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and contributes to reducing the UAE’s reliance on imported feed.

In the GCC region, approximately 18 million tonnes of food waste are recorded annually, 19 percent of which comes from cereals and grains. núaFEEDs’ solution aims to recover those wasted nutrients, reduce greenhouse emissions, and provide a cost-effective, fixed-price feed option for the UAE’s 4.8 million livestock and 44 poultry farms.

By leveraging Australia’s rigorous biosecurity practices, núaFEEDs guarantees the safety and quality of its feed product, which offers superior protein and energy content compared to conventional grains like barley.

The company’s decision to base its international expansion in the UAE was driven by the country’s clear sustainability vision and ambition to become a global leader in climate-conscious food systems.
