Independent artist-designer Banafsheh Hemmati is set to debut her first solo exhibition in the UAE, opening 9 October 2025 at Satellite Gallery, DIFC. Titled Body Geometry, the exhibition marks a significant milestone in Hemmati’s career, bringing together her practice in wearable jewellery and large-scale sculpture through a deeply philosophical and design-led approach.

Organised in collaboration with Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the exhibition explores the complex relationship between body, space, and geometry, positioning itself at the intersection of art, design, and philosophy. Body Geometry invites viewers into a rich visual dialogue, where each piece reveals how a single geometric form can unfold into a dynamic, multifaceted language.

“All the works in this new collection are derived from three foundational forms of Islamic Geometry,” says Hemmati. “Body Geometry is a research-based project, where not only the final pieces but the design process is presented as well. As a designer-artist, I’m trained to redefine fundamental Islamic geometric patterns, taking this notion of scale from jewellery to large-scale sculptures.”

Drawing from over two decades of artistic practice, Hemmati reimagines Islamic geometry not just as aesthetic heritage, but as a contemporary visual language—one capable of fostering deeper cultural dialogue between East and West. Her unique approach disrupts the traditional rigidity of geometric forms, allowing them to evolve across different scales and functions.

While Islamic philosophy traditionally moves from multiplicity toward unity, Body Geometry takes the reverse path—from unity to multiplicity—to construct a new, layered spatial experience. This conceptual inversion becomes the foundation for a collection that looks both backward and forward, creating connections across time, place, and culture.

The exhibition follows Hemmati’s celebrated participation in Dubai Design Week and two consecutive editions of the DIFC Sculpture Park. Her 2023 installation Seven Cypresses, blending Gothic and Islamic motifs, was acquired by DIFC’s private collection. She returned in 2024 to present The Eternal Gateway, a site-specific interactive work. Hemmati remains the only independent artist consistently associated with the DIFC art program.

As the founder of Banafsheh Hemmati Design Studio, the Tehran-based artist holds a Master’s in Industrial Design and a PhD in Philosophy of Art, with her academic research focused on the intersection of geometry and aesthetics. Her expansive body of work spans jewellery, sculpture, interior design, furniture, and lighting, exhibited in Iran, the US, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Turkey, and the UAE.

Body Geometry will be open to the public from 9–31 October 2025 at Satellite Gallery, DIFC.
