In a second ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton, New Zealand wrapped up the three-match series in style after dismissing England for just 175 in 36 overs. The hosts’ victory by five wickets secured the series 2-0 with a game to spare.
England, having won the toss and elected to bat, again found their top-order in disarray. No partnership lasted more than six overs or 38 runs, and their collective shot-selection verged on reckless.
Their batting unit never recovered: only Jamie Overton (42 from 27 balls) and Harry Brook (34) made any real impression — while established names such as Joe Root and Jos Buttler failed to step up.
New Zealand’s seam attack was spearheaded by Blair Tickner, who returned to international cricket after over two years out and responded in style with career-best figures of 4 for 34.
In reply, the Black Caps overcame early hiccups and were comfortably home with 101 balls to spare, thanks largely to the composed innings of Daryl Mitchell (56 not out) and Rachin Ravindra (54).
For England, the defeat leaves more questions than answers as they head towards their upcoming Ashes campaign — the batting woes that have plagued them remain glaring.
