The Bombay Stock Exchange bomb threat triggered a swift security response on Tuesday after an email claimed that multiple explosive devices had been planted at the iconic financial institution’s South Mumbai premises.

The threat, received on BSE’s official email, alleged that four RDX IED bombs were planted inside the Feroze Tower building and would detonate at 3 PM. The sender identified themselves using the name “Comrade Pinayari Vijayan,” according to police officials.

Authorities immediately launched a full-scale evacuation and deployed the Mumbai Police, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), to sweep the premises for potential explosives.

Emergency Protocol Activated, No Threat Detected

Following a thorough investigation, the Mumbai Police declared that the bomb threat at the Bombay Stock Exchange was a hoax. No explosives or suspicious materials were found on site.

A case has been registered at Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and a cyber investigation is underway to identify the origin of the email and the person(s) behind the threat.

Officials confirmed that forensic analysis of the email headers and server trail is in progress to trace the source.

Rising Pattern of Hoax Threats Across India

The incident follows a disturbing trend of recent hoax threats nationwide. On Monday, three schools in New Delhi also received bomb threats via email, prompting police inspections. Similar to the Mumbai case, no suspicious objects were discovered in those instances.

In Amritsar, the Golden Temple received a bomb threat email on Monday. The message claimed RDX had been placed in the Darbar Sahib and langar hall. Following a rapid deployment of security personnel and a full search of the complex, authorities found nothing hazardous.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has filed a formal complaint, and an investigation is ongoing.

Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla responded on social media, writing on X, “An email has been received threatening to blow up Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) with RDX. This is not just a threat to a religious site – it’s an attack on peace, faith & humanity.”

Security Agencies on High Alert

Following the Bombay Stock Exchange bomb threat, security has been stepped up across other key financial and public infrastructure hubs in Mumbai and other metro cities.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, and have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those misusing digital platforms to spread panic.

The Mumbai Police have requested that anyone with information related to the email or suspicious activity near sensitive installations come forward.
