The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is inviting the community to nominate long-established businesses for the fifth edition of the annual Urban Treasures awards. This initiative honours culturally and historically significant establishments that continue to enrich the emirate as local landmarks.

Public nominations are open until 30th November, encouraging residents to submit businesses they believe deserve recognition as ‘Urban Treasures’. Eligible nominees include cafés, restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, textile stores, tailors, perfumeries, jewellers, pharmacies, and photography studios that have operated in Abu Dhabi for 20 years or more.

After a six-month evaluation and shortlisting process, 15 establishments will be honoured at the annual Urban Treasures awards ceremony.

First launched five years ago, the initiative underscores the importance of heritage businesses in shaping Abu Dhabi’s social and cultural identity while supporting its economy. It is part of DCT Abu Dhabi’s broader mission to preserve the emirate’s living heritage and celebrate establishments that remain vital to community life.

In recognition of their decades-long contribution, Abu Dhabi is paying tribute to these establishments as cherished icons that continue to serve present and future generations. Recipients receive special recognition and promotional support, including branded materials that showcase their designation to both residents and visitors.
