Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit places in Delhi on Tuesday, as a relief to the intense heat experienced over the last several days. The city had been waterlogged in many places, which affected traffic flows.

There were pictures of the Zakhira underpass in the national capital being waterlogged, and individuals attempting to pass through the flooded street.

Airlines have also released warnings, alerting airline customers of the temporary inconveniences in flight schedules.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), IndiGo said, “Persistent rainfall and thunderstorms are currently affecting #Delhi, leading to possible delays in flight operations. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation to ensure your journey resumes as soon as conditions improve. If you’re travelling today, we recommend checking your flight status on our website or app before leaving for the airport. Please also allow for additional travel time, as road conditions may be slower than usual.”

In its advisory, Air India also mentioned “Heavy rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today.”

The ‘orange’ alert was issued due to heavy rain and thunderstorms by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

IMD states, “Thunderstorm/lightning with moderate rain with gusty winds very likely over parts of South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahadra, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi, and North Delhi.”
