As the Dubai Metro prepares to celebrate its 15th anniversary, it is looking to honor ‘Metro babies’—those born on the same date as the Metro’s inaugural journey on September 9, 2009. In a special initiative announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday, some of these ‘Metro babies’ may receive an academic sponsorship to pursue higher education.

Eligibility Criteria for the Academic Sponsorship:
To qualify for the sponsorship, the student must meet the following conditions:
- Be a UAE national.
- Have been born on September 9, 2009.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of over 90%.
Additionally, ‘Metro babies’ born between 2009 and 2023 are invited to a celebration at Legoland Dubai on September 21, 2024, as part of the anniversary festivities.
15th Anniversary Events and Offerings:
To mark this milestone, the RTA has planned a series of events and exclusive items for UAE residents, including:
- Musical Performances: A lineup of Emirati and international musicians will perform at Metro stations from September 21 to 27.
- Limited-Edition Items: Special Nol cards featuring a design by Lego Dubai and limited-edition post stamps will be available, along with other Metro-related souvenirs.
- Discounted Nol Cards: 5,000 winners who discover a special code on the sticks of limited-edition Metro-shaped ice cream will receive discounted Nol cards.
These initiatives are part of the RTA’s celebration theme, “15 Years on Track,” designed to engage and delight residents and visitors while commemorating the Metro’s impact on the city’s public transport landscape.
