The Dubai Ports Authority, which is a unit of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has introduced its first smart system that implements Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to issue operational approvals and safe work permits related to the Dubai Ports Authority.

Dubai Media Office stated that the initiative is a part of the ongoing work to enhance the efficiency of the governmental ecosystem and achieve a sustainable digital reform of the operational approaches that will support the strategy of the Corporation in terms of implementing AI technologies and a thorough digitalization of services.

CEO of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, Nasser AlNeyadi, shared his remarks on the launch that “This project aligns with the Corporation’s comprehensive AI strategy, which aims to transform services into self-managed processes and deliver a smoother customer experience while enhancing the safety and efficiency of operations at Dubai ports. The automated smart system encompasses cases that comply entirely with technical and safety standards and includes specific categories of approvals, such as the acceptance of dangerous goods at the port, vessel bunkering operations, ship waste discharge to reception facilities, as well as safe work permits in ports and ship repair facilities.”

Al Neyadi said, “With approximately 44,000 transactions processed annually, the new system allows eligible requests to be issued instantly following automated verification of data and requirements, while exceptional cases are automatically directed to human review to ensure the highest levels of governance and compliance. These smart solutions exemplify Dubai Government’s direction in the realm of AI and present a regulatory model that enhances safety standards and improves service efficiency without compromising established controls.”

He also further added that “This initiative not only embodies our commitment to development and innovation but also showcases our dedication to making Dubai Ports a premier, safer, and more efficient business environment on a global scale. Through this step, we aim to provide a seamless customer experience and diminish transaction processing times, thereby fortifying Dubai’s competitiveness as a global hub for trade and maritime services. We will persist in enhancing this system progressively based on monitoring results and performance evaluations.”
