Dubai has officially become a member of the Global Resilient Cities Network that unites major cities of the world that are dedicated to the improvement of urban resilience and sustainable development.
The membership reinforces Dubai as a global model in managing crises and risks and its dedication to implementing the best-in-class practices that can help cities to predict, resist, and adjust to changes in the future.
This time His Highness His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management in Dubai, stated that joining the illustrious global network is a new strategic milestone for the city.
He said that the drive enables the international position of Dubai as a city with sophisticated abilities to foresee dangers, adapt to emerging challenges, and be at the forefront in creating resilient and sustainable urban networks.
He added that “Dubai’s membership in the Resilient Cities Network reflects Dubai’s emergence as a leading city in risk management and urban resilience. It also supports our ongoing efforts to enhance crisis and disaster response, ensure uninterrupted development and quality of life, and build stronger capabilities in risk management, urban resilience, and future planning. This step further reinforces Dubai’s status as one of the world’s safest, most sustainable, and most innovative cities.”
His Excellency Ahmad Atiq Bourqibah, executive manager of the Dubai Resilience Center, said that Dubai is joining the Resilient Cities Network as a major step in ensuring that the city becomes one of the most future-ready cities.
He further affirmed that such a global partnership will see Dubai share experience with other major cities of the world and utilize the best practices in urban resilience to maintain the sustainability of the services and improve the well-being of its residents, regardless of the situation.
The partnership will also offer the means of international collaboration with global cities and partners on innovation projects and smart technologies regarding risk and resilience.
This will assist the local institutions in formulating future-oriented policies and plans based on international best practices and expedite the shift of Dubai into a smart and resilient city that is capable of managing rapid change and tackling future challenges with confidence and effectiveness.
He further stated that Dubai is not just getting ready to face a crisis; it is also determined to convert challenges into opportunities and create a resilient and integrated system that will see the sustained growth and development despite the fast changes occurring in the world.
Therefore, Dubai becomes the first city in the GCC region to become a member of the Resilient Cities Network.
