Dubai is advancing towards building more sustainable and livable residential areas with its new Super Block initiative, designed to create car-free zones, as announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence on Thursday, February 6th, 2025.
This solidifies the city’s broader commitment to a greener future and the plan aims to revamp neighborhoods by focusing on pedestrians and cyclists.

The areas like Al Fahidi, Abu Hail, Al Karama, and Al Quoz Creative Zone will be transformed into pedestrian-friendly zones, improving the quality of life by expanding green spaces and promoting community engagement through shared recreational public areas
In his X post, Sheikh Hamdan wrote, “We introduced the Super Block initiative to create car-free pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods. His Highness added, “In addition, we set a goal to fully digitise all government services by 2027. Through these proactive initiatives, Dubai continues to set new global standards in community care, infrastructure, and digital innovation, while fulfilling the aspirations of its people.”
The main objectives are to enhance the quality of life with pedestrian-friendly urban spaces, foster social interaction through shared recreational public spaces, support the 20-minute city concept, establish a sustainable emission-free environment, boost economic activity, create new investment opportunities, and promote sustainable flexible mobility.
