The completed bridges span 1,350 meters and have a combined capacity of about 8,000 vehicles per hour.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened two significant bridges as part of the Al Khail Road Development Project, aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in key areas of the emirate. The newly opened bridges, located at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1, extend a combined length of 1,350 meters and are designed to accommodate around 8,000 vehicles per hour in the direction of Jebel Ali.

These new structures are part of a broader initiative to enhance the efficiency of Al Khail Road, which is a vital artery linking several major areas of Dubai. The project, which is currently 80% complete, includes the construction of 3,300 meters of bridges and the expansion of lanes over 6,820 meters. These upgrades span multiple locations along Al Khail Road, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
The project aims to reduce travel time by 30%, increase the capacity of intersections and bridges by 19,600 vehicles per hour, and resolve traffic overlaps at flyovers, thus ensuring smoother and more continuous traffic flow.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, emphasized the strategic importance of the Al Khail Road Development Project. He stated, “The project aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to continue enhancing the road network infrastructure to support the emirate’s ongoing development. Our goal is to accommodate the needs arising from urban growth and to improve traffic flow, guided by the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence.”
Al Tayer detailed the specifications of the new bridges, highlighting that the first bridge at Zaa’beel spans 700 meters with three lanes, offering a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. The second bridge at Al Quoz 1 stretches 650 meters with two lanes, capable of handling 3,200 vehicles per hour.
These developments are expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and improve overall transport efficiency across Dubai, particularly on Al Khail Road, which serves as a critical parallel and supporting corridor to other major routes like Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.
