At least 11 people were killed on Friday after a bus and a truck collided head-on in southern Brazil, according to a statement from the Federal Highway Police.
The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. local time (1430 GMT) on a federal highway in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil’s southernmost state. Police said seven other people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.
Authorities added that part of the truck’s load of sand spilled into the bus during the collision, which made it harder for rescue teams to reach those inside the vehicle.
