Civilian flight operations have resumed at Srinagar International Airport, following the revocation of NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) that had temporarily suspended operations at 32 airports across India amid recent hostilities.

According to an official notification from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), all 32 affected airports, including Srinagar, are now cleared for civil aviation activity with immediate effect. The notice had initially indicated a suspension of operations until 05:29 hrs on May 15, 2025.

“Attention flyers: Reference earlier notice regarding temporary closure of 32 airports for civil aircraft operations – these airports are now open for civilian flights effective immediately,” the AAI’s Corporate Communications Directorate stated. Passengers are advised to verify their flight status directly with airlines and monitor official airline websites for updates.

Although Srinagar airport primarily functions as a defence facility, the revocation of the NOTAM now enables it to handle civilian flights once again. The move follows a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, which ended four days of cross-border tension.

While relative calm has returned along the 740-km Line of Control (LoC) and the 240-km International Border (IB) in Jammu & Kashmir, security forces have urged border residents not to rush back to their homes just yet. Many areas remain hazardous due to unexploded shells, which are currently being neutralized.

Officials report that over 200 homes and shops were destroyed in the recent shelling across several districts, including Uri, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, Rajouri, Samba, Jammu, and Kathua.

Although hostilities have ceased, scores of civilians injured in the shelling are still receiving treatment in hospitals across Jammu and Srinagar, as well as district medical centers throughout the union territory.
