Bollywood actor Geeta Basra is gearing up for a triumphant return to the silver screen after nearly a decade-long hiatus. The 41-year-old, known for roles in The Train and Dil Diya Hai, has shared excitement about the same.

Her comeback role comes in the Punjabi family drama Mehar, directed by acclaimed writer-director Rakesh Mehta, which also marks the acting debut of British-Indian businessman-turned-actor Raj Kundra. Basra noted, “When ‘Mehar’ came to me, I just couldn’t say no. It’s such a deep and meaningful story, with a powerful message that speaks directly to the heart,” she said.

She further reflected: “As an artist, you wait for a film that resonates with you on every level – and ‘Mehar’ is exactly that. It’s a blessing to be part of something that I know will connect with families everywhere.” The film is set to release worldwide on September 5, blending heartwarming family drama with soul-stirring music and an uplifting message.

Basra also voiced her hope that her return will encourage other working mothers to pursue their passions: “I hope my journey shows that you can step away, focus on what matters most, and still return to your passions with even more purpose. If ‘Mehar’ inspires just one person to keep believing in their dreams, then I will feel my job is done.” She added, “Women with that life experience can probably deliver the best and most authentic performances in challenging roles, especially family dramas. That is why this film was a natural fit for me. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of it and believe it will make a positive difference.”

Mehar unfolds against the pastoral backdrop of rural Punjab, featuring Basra as Simmi opposite Raj Kundra as Karamjit Singh. The story centers on a man striving to regain his dignity as a father, husband, and son amid life’s many trials, promising to be a deeply emotional and resonant cinematic experience.(PTI Inputs)
