Global PC shipments totaled 63.2 million units in the second quarter of 2025, marking a 4.4% year-on-year increase, according to preliminary data released by Gartner, Inc. The growth reflects stronger demand from enterprises and inventory buildup in the U.S. market ahead of anticipated tariff changes, alongside continued Windows 11 migration cycles.
“Enterprise demand outpaced consumer activity, fueled by Windows 11 upgrades and the replacement of pandemic-era desktops,” said Rishi Padhi, Research Principal at Gartner. “Meanwhile, consumer refreshes slowed as buyers deferred purchases.”
Gartner forecasts that PC shipments will grow 2.4% for full-year 2025, driven by front-loaded inventory strategies and Windows 11 adoption. However, growth is expected to flatten in the second half of the year as vendors manage excess stock.
Mixed Regional Performance
- North America recorded a 0.5% decline in PC shipments compared to Q2 2024.
- APAC remained flat, showing signs of stabilization after multiple quarters of contraction.
- The EMEA region led the regional recovery with 5.3% growth, supported by seasonal demand and desktop refreshes.
“Despite stronger-than-usual activity in EMEA, the overall surge in new device purchases remains subdued, as many organizations choose to upgrade existing hardware for Windows 11 rather than buy new systems,” Padhi added.
Lenovo and Apple Lead Vendor Growth
The top five global PC vendors remained unchanged in their rankings, with Lenovo and Apple reporting the highest year-over-year growth at 13.9% and 13.4%, respectively.
