Gold And Silver Hit New Record Highs

Gold surged past the U.S.$4,600-per-ounce mark for the first time on Monday, while silver also climbed to a new record high.

Spot gold rose 1.5 percent to U.S.$4,478.79 per ounce by 0127 GMT, after reaching an intraday peak of U.S.$4,600.33.

U.S. gold futures for February delivery increased 2 percent to U.S.$4,591.10.

Spot silver jumped 4.4 percent to U.S.$83.50 per ounce, having earlier touched an all-time high of U.S.$83.96.

Spot platinum gained 2.9 percent to U.S.$2,338.54 per ounce, following a record high of U.S.$2,478.50 reached on December 29.

Palladium prices also advanced, rising 4.2 percent to U.S.$1,892.18 per ounce.
