U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan early Saturday, following a period of heightened military tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Shortly after Trump’s statement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the agreement and commended both sides for showing restraint. “I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio wrote on X.
Rubio, who had spoken with the foreign ministers of both nations earlier in the day, praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for “their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”
Over the past 48 hours, @VP Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit…

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the ceasefire in a statement on X, aligning with Trump’s announcement. “Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Dar wrote.
The surprise ceasefire comes after a night of mutual accusations and cross-border strikes between the two countries, with both sides blaming the other for escalating hostilities.
