Delhi Airport confirmed that 225 IndiGo flights were cancelled on Friday morning, affecting both arrivals and departures from the capital’s hub. Indian media reported that over 500 IndiGo flights have been cancelled throughout the day, creating significant disruption for domestic travellers.
Delhi Airport Urges Passengers to Check Flight Status
In response, Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory, alerting travellers to operational challenges affecting certain domestic flights. The advisory, posted on social media platform X, stated, “Please be advised that operational challenges affecting certain domestic services are resulting in flight delays and cancellations.”
The airport also urged passengers to verify their flight status directly with their airline before leaving home. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation.” Airport authorities reassured the public that dedicated on-ground teams are working closely with airlines to mitigate disruptions and ensure passenger comfort.
Minimal Impact on UAE-Bound Travellers
Despite the cancellations, experts noted that UAE-bound passengers would face minimal disruption. Mohammed Safeer, General Manager of Smart Travels, said, “None of the international flights of Indigo airline have been impacted. We had a call with Indigo airline this morning and they have assured us that the international flights will continue as scheduled.”
Temporary Operational Exemptions
IndiGo, facing operational disruptions, has requested temporary exemptions from certain Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) for its A320 fleet until February 10, 2026. The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the request, stating, “To reduce passenger inconvenience while maintaining safety margins, IndiGo has requested operational variations or exemptions from specific FDTL provisions for A320 operations up to February 10, 2026. IndiGo has assured DGCA that corrective actions are underway and that normalised and stable operations will be fully restored by February 10, 2026.”
IndiGo has experienced a sharp rise in daily cancellations, reaching approximately 170-200 flights per day—substantially higher than its usual operational numbers. The carrier is actively taking corrective measures to stabilise operations and reduce passenger inconvenience over the coming months
