Italy’s unemployment rate declined to 5.6 percent in December, reaching its lowest level since records began in 2004, according to provisional data published by Istat on Friday.
The Italian News Agency (ANSA) reported that the figure was 0.1 percentage point below the previous record low of 5.7 percent recorded in November.
Istat noted that the number of people in employment totaled 24.142 million in December, a decrease of 20,000 compared with November, but an increase of 62,000 year-on-year from December 2024.
The statistics agency also said the employment rate slipped to 62.5 percent, down 0.1 percentage point from the previous month.
