Japan Reports 2.7% Unemployment Rate In January

Japan’s unemployment rate rose to 2.7 percent in January, up from 2.6 percent in December, marking the first increase in five months, government data showed Tuesday.

The number of employed people declined 0.4 percent to a seasonally adjusted 68.17 million, falling for the first time in five months, while the number of unemployed increased 3.2 percent to 1.91 million, recording a second consecutive month of growth, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications reported.

The job availability ratio slipped 0.02 points from December to 1.18, indicating 118 jobs were available for every 100 job seekers, marking the first drop in three months.
