At least 25 people were injured, some critically, after a powerful explosion ripped through a fireworks storage facility in Karachi’s southern district on Thursday, according to police and hospital officials.
Television footage showed thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky, while shattered glass from nearby shops covered the streets. Panic gripped the area as residents rushed to safety, witnesses said.
Firefighters battled to control the flames as ambulances ferried the injured — including passersby caught in the blast — to multiple hospitals across the city, senior police official Asad Raza confirmed.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion. The incident has raised renewed concerns over the storage and handling of fireworks in densely populated urban areas, where safety lapses often lead to tragic accidents.
