UAE-based Khazna Data Centers has signed a heads of terms agreement with Italian energy giant Eni to develop a 500 MW artificial intelligence (AI) data center campus in Italy’s Lombardy region, marking a significant milestone in global hyperscale infrastructure development.

The joint venture, announced in a press release, did not disclose the ownership split but confirmed that the Milan AI Data Center Campus will be powered by low-carbon “blue power” sourced from Eni’s combined cycle gas turbine facility. This would mark the first hyperscale data campus in Italy to be powered by a low-emission energy source, according to the release.

The Lombardy site is just the first phase of a larger project. The partners aim to develop up to 1 GW of IT capacity across Italy, aligning with a bilateral agreement signed between the UAE and Italy in February to deepen technological and energy cooperation.

Expanding international footprint:
The Italy announcement comes as Khazna accelerates its global AI data center strategy, expanding into Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, and forming alliances with global tech leaders, including Nvidia.

Khazna’s international ventures highlight the UAE’s ambition to become a regional and global hub for advanced digital infrastructure and AI capabilities.
