The Republic of Korea recorded a historic high in exports in 2025, reaching US$709.7 billion and exceeding the $700 billion threshold for the first time, according to government figures released on Thursday.
Total exports increased by 3.8 percent compared to the previous year. Semiconductor shipments surged 22.2 percent year-on-year to a record $173.4 billion, driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI), based on data from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.
Meanwhile, imports declined slightly by 0.02 percent year-on-year to $631.7 billion in 2025, leading to a trade surplus of $78 billion the country’s largest since 2017, Yonhap News Agency reported.
