South Korea’s exports grew 7.6 percent year-on-year in the first 20 days of August, boosted by solid demand for semiconductors and automobiles, data showed Thursday.
According to the Korea Customs Service, outbound shipments totaled US$35.5 billion from August 1–20, up from US$33 billion during the same period last year.
The average daily export volume also rose 7.6 percent compared to a year earlier, with the number of working days remaining unchanged at 14.5.
Imports edged up 0.4 percent on-year to US$34.7 billion, leading to a trade surplus of around US$800 million, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Semiconductor exports jumped 29.5 percent from a year earlier to US$8.71 billion, making up 24.5 percent of total outbound shipments—an increase of 4.2 percentage points from last year.
Exports of automobiles climbed 21.7 percent to US$2.77 billion, while vessel shipments rose 28.9 percent to US$2.3 billion.
