South Korea’s benchmark KOSPI briefly crossed the 8,000-point mark for the first time on Friday, extending a powerful rally driven by investor enthusiasm around artificial intelligence and robust earnings from major technology companies.

The index climbed to an all-time high of 8,001.4 at 9:15 a.m. local time before trimming some of its gains in early trading, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The latest milestone underscores the rapid momentum in South Korean equities, particularly among technology stocks that have benefited from the global AI boom and renewed foreign investor appetite. The KOSPI took just seven trading sessions to rise from the 7,000-point threshold, which it crossed on May 6.

Market sentiment has remained buoyant in recent weeks as investors continue to pour into semiconductor and AI-linked counters, betting on sustained demand for advanced computing infrastructure and next-generation technologies.

Analysts say strong quarterly performances from heavyweight tech firms have further reinforced market confidence, helping push the benchmark index to successive record highs.
