At least 10 people, mostly teenagers, were injured in a mass shooting outside the Amazura nightclub in Queens, New York, late night on New Year’s Day.
According to police and reports, four men fired over 30 rounds into a crowd gathered near the nightclub following a private event.
The victims, six females and four males aged 16 to 20, suffered gunshot wounds but are not in critical condition. At a Thursday morning press conference, NYPD officials confirmed that all the injured are expected to survive.
The victims were transported to nearby hospitals, including Long Island Jewish Hospital and Cohen’s Children Medical Center, according to sources.
A heavy police and ambulance presence outside Amazura was captured in footage posted on the Citizen App, with additional video from an onlooker’s balcony showing law enforcement surrounding the nightclub around midnight.
Police Search For Suspects, Motive Unclear
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have yet to identify the suspects. Police are currently searching for a light-colored sedan believed to be connected to the incident.
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards revealed that the nightclub was hosting a small private event to honor the memory of a teenager who was killed in Brooklyn late last year.
“They just wanted to cause destruction,” he said of the shooters.
In a statement on social media, Gov. Kathy Hochul said “a memorial for a teen lost to gun violence turned to horror when gunmen opened fire on the crowd.”
Amazura, known for its expansive interior with a capacity of 4,000 people, regularly hosts DJs and live performances, making it a popular nightlife venue in the area.
“We are deeply saddened by the recent and unfortunate isolated incident that occurred,” the venue said in an Instagram post. “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless act.”
