Mexico’s National Seismological Service (SSN) reported late Friday that 936 aftershocks were recorded following a magnitude 6.5 earthquake.
In a post on social media platform X, the SSN said the aftershocks came after the powerful tremor, which it had earlier confirmed struck the southern state of Guerrero.
Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada said the quake left 12 people injured in the capital.
The shaking was also felt in the states of Morelos, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Colima, the SSN added.
