The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has partnered with Microsoft to leverage Microsoft Azure and cloud AI capabilities for the research and development of prototype AI agents aimed at enhancing higher education in the UAE in line with national priorities.
“The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is committed to strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading global hub for innovation and advanced research, in support of a sustainable, resilient, and future-ready nation,” said Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
He added that collaborations like this partnership with Microsoft demonstrate the Ministry’s commitment to deepening engagement across the higher education and research ecosystem, ensuring that innovation and research outcomes are closely aligned with national priorities.
The initiative focuses on four prototype agents:
- Lifelong Learning and Skills Progression agent: Supports career and skills navigation through in-demand skills and learning pathways.
- Faculty Enablement and Course Co-Creation agent: Helps faculty update curricula and co-design courses and credentials with industry.
- Student Personalised Learning agent: Provides tailored learning support to help students progress at their own pace.
- Research Mission Alignment agent: Connects research to national missions and real-world challenges, strengthening societal impact.
As part of the collaboration, MoHESR and Microsoft will explore further opportunities to utilize Microsoft Azure and cloud AI, adopt a participatory design approach with stakeholders including faculty, students, and industry, and investigate potential technical collaborations in data analytics, machine learning, and AI.
Amr Kamel, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, said, “Agentic AI represents a transformative opportunity for the public sector – especially in education- by enabling dynamic, personalised learning experiences and driving operational efficiencies.”
He added that for the UAE, adopting agentic AI in education will empower students and educators to thrive in a rapidly evolving world and position the nation at the forefront of global innovation, preparing future generations to excel in a knowledge-based economy.
The Ministry’s partnership with Microsoft reflects its ongoing commitment to fostering innovative private-sector collaborations aimed at building an interconnected ecosystem that equips students with the skills required for a knowledge-based economy and the future labour market.
