More Than 50 Killed In Philippines Ferry Tragedy

The sinking of the passenger-cargo ferry Trisha Kerstin 3 near the Philippines has resulted in at least 51 fatalities, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.

Coast Guard divers recovered five additional bodies on Tuesday as search and rescue operations continued in the waters off Basilan province.

The death toll has now risen to 51, the Coast Guard confirmed, as reported by the Philippine News Agency. The number of survivors has reached 316.

On the night of 26 January, the M/V Trisha Kerstin 3 sank approximately one nautical mile off Basilan province, carrying 332 passengers and 27 crew members. The incident is believed to have been caused by technical problems.
