Heavy monsoon rains battered Mumbai on Monday, causing widespread travel chaos across the city. Waterlogging in several low-lying areas, combined with poor visibility, disrupted air, rail, and road movement.

At the city’s international airport, nine flights were forced into “go-arounds” during landing attempts, while one flight was diverted to another airport due to heavy downpours and safety concerns. Airlines have urged passengers to check flight status updates and arrive at the airport well in advance.

The suburban train network, considered Mumbai’s lifeline, was also hit, with services running 15–20 minutes behind schedule on multiple routes. Officials cited flooded tracks and signaling issues as the primary reasons for the delays.

Road traffic was brought to a standstill in several areas, with vehicles stuck in waist-deep water at key junctions. Commuters reported long traffic snarls from Goregaon to Bandra and along the Eastern Freeway, adding to the gridlock.

Authorities have deployed additional staff for water pumping and traffic management. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city, forecasting more heavy rainfall through Tuesday.
