Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, inaugurated the 31st edition of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, one of the region’s most prestigious chess events.
The festival is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Opening ceremony with AI-powered first move
As patron of the opening ceremony, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak officially launched the festival by making the first move through artificial intelligence. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Tarim Matar Muhammad Tarim, President of the UAE Chess Federation, and Hussein Abdullah Al Khouri, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club.
Global competition begins
Following the opening, Sheikh Nahyan reviewed the festival’s activities and toured the various competitions taking place. The tournament now officially begins, bringing together participants from across the world in a highly competitive atmosphere.
The Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival has grown into a significant global sporting event, reinforcing the emirate’s role as a hub for international mind sports and cultural exchange.
