Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), stated that the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi will act as a global platform for scientific exploration and serve as a bridge connecting the planet’s ancient past with a sustainable future.

Covering 35,000 square metres in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum is the largest of its kind in the region.

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Mubarak explained that the museum is part of a broader cultural ecosystem that includes the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum, along with the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the immersive TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.

Key highlights of the museum include three extraordinary travellers from deep time. The first is the famed “Stan,” a nearly complete skeleton of the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex, an apex predator that roamed the Earth 67 million years ago. It is complemented by the largest known animal, represented by a 25-metre female blue whale specimen, offering unique insights into evolution, marine biodiversity, and life on Earth.

The third is the Murchison Meteorite – a cosmic artefact that witnessed the formation of our planet and contains 7-billion-year-old grains that predate the Solar System.

Al Mubarak emphasized that these exhibits aim to enhance public understanding of biodiversity and evolution.

In addition to being a major tourist attraction, the museum is designed as a scientific research hub. It features specialised laboratories and educational facilities for earth sciences, paleontology, and marine biology. The museum also collaborates with international scientists and leading universities, providing opportunities for local students to engage in advanced molecular research and conservation studies.
