NMDC Group declared that its fully owned subsidiary, “NMDC Infra”, signed a strategic acquisition agreement to establish a leading global player in the water industry.

The agreement provides that NMDC Infra will acquire 51 per cent of Lantania Aguas, the subsidiary of Grupo Lantania that focuses on desalination, water treatment, and purification projects, whereas the Spanish Group will retain the other 49 per cent of the company.

Therefore, the Lantania Aguas, which will be renamed Lantania NMDC Water after the acquisition is completed, will maintain its existing management team. The transaction is implied to be completed under regulatory approvals of customary nature. With the existing issues of water shortage and the necessity to find powerful solutions and control of the resources, the two companies have united in a step that reinforces their mutual desire to offer solutions that are efficient in meeting one of the most urgent demands of the community all over the world.

Lantania NMDC Water is a proposed merger of NMDC and Lantania, integrating their commercial and technical skills with Lantania’s experience, credentials, and expertise in desalination, wastewater treatment, and water reuse, along with large-scale industrial projects to form a unique global water infrastructure operator.

The rebranded Lantania NMDC Water will have a workforce of over 300 members and a backlog of current projects worth over AED2 billion in various countries, which is a strong background that underpins the growth perspective of the company.

The company will be managed under a joint management model under the agreement that will enhance the firm’s technology, financial, and operational capabilities, which will increase its presence in key strategic markets such as the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Eng. Yasser Zaghloul, Group CEO, NMDC Group, said, “This acquisition marks NMDC Group’s first entry to the European market as we are set to export UAE-grown capabilities and scale to complement Lantania’s proven expertise. It also aligns with our strategy of expanding and diversifying NMDC Infra’s portfolio offering across many of the world’s most dynamic industries and markets.”

He stated, “NMDC Group has long recognised the global challenges posed to water, and through Lantania NMDC Water, we affirm our commitment to harness innovation and advanced solutions to a more sustainable future.”

Federico Ávila, Chairman and CEO of the Lantania Group, added, “This alliance marks a milestone in the history of our company and a turning point for Lantania Aguas. NMDC Group’s technical and commercial strength, combined with Lantania’s engineering capabilities and experience in this market, will enable us to jointly undertake major projects and establish a global benchmark in sustainable water solutions. We share the same vision, focused on promoting innovation, energy efficiency, and sustainability in each of our projects, contributing in a tangible way to global water security.”
