Pakistan are set to begin a new chapter in their ODI journey as four players prepare to make their debut in the first One-Day International against Bangladesh. The match will see Sahibzada Farhan, Shamyl Hussain, Abdul Samad and Maaz Sadaqat represent Pakistan in ODI cricket for the first time.

The decision reflects Pakistan’s move toward building a fresh squad and giving emerging players an opportunity at the international level. With Shaheen Shah Afridi leading the side, the team management is clearly focusing on developing a new core ahead of future global tournaments.

A Rare Moment in Pakistan’s ODI History

Fielding four debutants in a single ODI is an unusual step for Pakistan. It is the first time since 2008 that the team has handed out as many ODI caps in one match, highlighting the scale of the transition currently underway.

Several established names were left out of the squad as Pakistan opted to experiment with younger talent. The move follows a period of reflection after the team’s campaign in the recent T20 World Cup ended earlier than expected.

Farhan’s Consistent Performances Earn Reward

Sahibzada Farhan enters the ODI side after an impressive run in T20 cricket. The experienced opener has been among Pakistan’s most consistent performers in the format in recent months.

His aggressive batting at the top of the order has made him a key figure in Pakistan’s T20 plans, and the selectors now believe he deserves the opportunity to prove himself in the 50-over format as well. Despite not playing much List A cricket recently, his form in shorter formats has made a strong case for selection.

Young Talent at the Top

Farhan is expected to open alongside 21-year-old Shamyl Hussain. The young batter has quickly gained attention for his performances in domestic cricket and is considered one of Pakistan’s promising prospects across formats.

Shamyl’s ability to score quickly while maintaining consistency has impressed selectors, and his strong performances in domestic competitions have paved the way for his international debut.

Firepower in the Middle Order

Abdul Samad adds an attacking option to Pakistan’s middle order. Known for his explosive style in T20 cricket, Samad has also shown that he can adapt to longer formats.

With solid List A numbers and the ability to accelerate when required, the team management believes he can provide valuable balance to the batting lineup.

A Versatile Young All-Rounder

The youngest of the debutants, Maaz Sadaqat, brings both batting and bowling skills to the side. The 20-year-old has impressed in domestic and developmental tournaments with his aggressive batting approach.

In addition to his batting, Sadaqat offers slow left-arm spin, which could prove useful on slower pitches in Dhaka. His all-round abilities make him an exciting prospect for Pakistan’s future.

Looking Ahead to the Series

Pakistan and Bangladesh will face off in a three-match ODI series, all to be played in Dhaka. The matches are scheduled for March 11, 13 and 15.

For Pakistan, the series provides a chance to test new combinations and evaluate emerging players in international conditions. For the debutants, it represents a major milestone and an opportunity to establish themselves on the global stage.

With fresh faces in the lineup and a new leadership structure in place, Pakistan’s ODI setup appears ready to embrace a new era.
