Superstar Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated action film Coolie is reportedly on track to become one of the broadest global releases in Indian cinema history, with plans to launch in over 100 countries when it hits theatres on August 14, 2025.
Industry insiders suggest that the international release strategy is being spearheaded by Hamsini Entertainment, a seasoned global distributor known for taking Indian films to international markets. The company has previously rolled out hits like The Greatest of All Time, starring Vijay, across 40 countries, and Devara, featuring Jr. NTR, in over 90 nations.
With Coolie, Hamsini Entertainment is poised for its most significant international push yet. The move also marks the highest overseas acquisition ever for a Tamil film, setting a new benchmark for global Tamil cinema.
Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie boasts a star-studded ensemble including Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his fourth consecutive collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj, a streak of success that continues.
Cinematography is helmed by Girish Gangadharan, with editing by Philomin Raj.
Notably, the on-screen reunion of Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth after 38 years—the last time the two legends shared the screen was in the 1986 hit Mr. Bharath —is particularly noteworthy. Their return in Coolie adds further to the buzz surrounding the film.
Set against the backdrop of gold smuggling, Coolie will be Rajinikanth’s 171st film. Despite its grand scale, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has confirmed that the film will be a standalone project, not linked to his popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
If the international rollout proceeds as anticipated, Coolie could become a landmark in the globalisation of Indian cinema, underscoring Rajinikanth’s enduring global appeal.
