H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, today attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ras Al Khaimah Municipality and the Urban Economy Forum, an international platform focused on promoting sustainable urban development.
The MoU aims to enhance cooperation in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to further solidify Ras Al Khaimah’s status as a leading example in achieving Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities.
The signing ceremony took place at Saqr bin Mohammed City Palace, where H.H. Sheikh Saud received a delegation headed by Reza Pourvaziry, Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Economy Forum, in the presence of several senior municipal officials.
Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate to strengthen the emirate’s leadership in sustainable urban development and its role in fulfilling the SDGs, particularly Goal 11. The agreement includes preparing Ras Al Khaimah’s comprehensive urban file, developing an innovative platform that connects the public and private sectors, establishing a general secretariat to oversee implementation and governance, launching local capacity-building programmes, and introducing initiatives to promote the emirate’s global identity.
The MoU also features a timeline of major deliverables, including the preparation of an urban assessment report, the formulation of Ras Al Khaimah Vision 2040 through broad community engagement, and the introduction of an AI-powered smart monitoring dashboard for sustainable development indicators. It further provides for workshops and training sessions for officials and community leaders, alongside awareness campaigns aimed at enhancing Ras Al Khaimah’s institutional identity both nationally and internationally.
This partnership aspires to position Ras Al Khaimah as a global hub for innovative and sustainable urban models through advancements in financing, knowledge development, and community empowerment, in alignment with the UAE Vision and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
